Our primary theoretical orientation includes cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, functional family therapy, as well as experiential therapy. I'm a Certified Anger Management Specialist, as well as a Certified Functional Family Therapist in the FFT model. I'm registered as a Certified Counselor with the State of Washington, and a registered intern for a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with the State of Oregon. I maintain a perspective of unconditional positive regard for each client I serve. What does this mean? This means I work with clients in understanding their negative thinking patterns and cognitions, and go on to work with them on evolving their thought patterns to more positive and empowering ones. Working on thinking patterns in the “here and now” allows individuals to gain perspective on how their thoughts affect their behaviors and actions. By bringing this into the counseling room, it gives individuals the tools to change and flourish in their interpersonal relationships as well as many aspects of their life. I also provide EMDR services to individuals who have experienced trauma and are looking to move past this.
I firmly hold the belief that each individual is comprised of their own unique strengths, qualities and attributes. I too believe that all individuals are phenomenal beings, who each have a unique story that is yearning to be heard. It is because of this that I strive to make a safe, non-judgmental environment where individuals can feel safe and able to tell their story. Additionally, I understand that everyone views and understands themselves on different levels. Therefore, different approaches and experiences in the therapeutic environment are important, as humans are not nominal beings. This allows an individual to experience their therapeutic environment in way that is most meaningful to them, which is of great importance to me as a counselor.
